REPAIRS

One board.
Or a bigger story.

A visible board problem may be isolated, or it may sit beside a wider issue. Describe the condition of the section so a repair discussion includes its supporting parts and the appearance of the finished patch.

01 / REPAIRS

Name the part that has changed.

Note whether the issue involves an individual board, the horizontal rails, a post or a connection between them. Describe leaning, separation, missing pieces or damage without assigning a structural cause from appearance alone.

Record the approximate number of affected sections and whether a gate is attached nearby. A defined repair area makes your quote request more useful than a general request to fix the fence. Keep clear of loose or unstable parts.

02 / REPAIRS

Ask what the repair will leave behind.

A board-only repair leaves the surrounding supports and connections in place. The remaining components need to be considered with the proposed repair so the scope addresses the whole affected section. A fresh surface should not conceal an unresolved support issue.

If more than one repair approach is offered, compare the included components, expected appearance and exclusions. Clarify whether damaged material will be removed from the property and whether adjacent sections need temporary disturbance to complete the work.

03 / REPAIRS

Plan for a visible difference.

New wood can differ from older boards in color, grain and surface appearance. Discuss the lumber and dimensions that will be used, along with any finish work included in the proposal. A partial repair is not automatically an invisible repair.

If refinishing is part of the plan, ask how the new and existing wood will be prepared under the selected product’s instructions. Save the material and coating details so future care does not depend on trying to identify an old finish by sight.

MAKE IT USEFUL

Define the wood repair scope.

Select the details you want to discuss with our team. Keep a copy for your project notes.

One more thing.

Should I replace the whole fence to avoid a patch?

Compare both options with a condition assessment and written scope. Appearance matters, but it should be considered alongside the parts that can reasonably remain and the work each option includes.
