CARE

Natural character.
A considered care plan.

Choose a wood fence with its care in mind from the beginning. A realistic plan connects the lumber, desired appearance and selected finish to the time and attention you are willing to give it.

01 / CARE

Start with the wood, then the finish.

Ask which lumber is being proposed and whether it will arrive finished or receive a finish on site. Discuss the appearance you want: visible grain, a more uniform color or natural weathering. Those goals lead to different product conversations.

Do not choose an application date from a generic calendar alone. The condition of the wood and the chosen product’s preparation, moisture and weather requirements matter. Include the wood’s condition and the proposed finish in your project details so the preparation requirements are clear.

02 / CARE

Make room to inspect and maintain it.

Walk both sides where access is available. Look for damaged boards, loose attachments, vegetation pressing against the fence and changes near posts. Describe what you observe instead of assuming that every surface mark needs the same treatment.

Plan planting and storage so the fence can still be reached. Avoid turning a narrow strip beside the house into an inaccessible gap. A thoughtful layout makes future cleaning, observation and finish work easier to organize.

03 / CARE

Treat maintenance as a product-specific task.

Keep the care instructions for the selected wood and coating together. Before using a cleaner, pressure washer, stain or sealant, check compatibility and the recommended method. Aggressive treatment is not automatically the right response to discoloration.

Record what was applied, where and when. Include the color or product code and the written care guidance. If a board is replaced later, those records help explain the difference between treating a new piece and maintaining the older surrounding surface.

MAKE IT USEFUL

Build a care record worth keeping.

One more thing.

How often will I need to refinish the fence?

There is no useful universal interval for every wood, finish and exposure. Use the selected product’s guidance and observed condition, and note changes that may need another assessment. Contact our team to discuss a repair or replacement quote request.
